As a member and Administrator of the Family Tree DNA Y-Chromosome Holt Surname Project, I cordially welcome you to this page. It is dedicated for display to public view and possible matching to our known Ancestral Lines and collaborating DNA profiles. These profiles are the result of our voluntary donations of DNA samples to be tested by the Family Tree DNA labs and then put on display mainly for our membership comparisons. But, we also wish to enable other persons to compare their own profiles with ours, even if done by other companies, and then hopefully they will share any results with us.
It is our hope that the many Holt family lines who are researching (we have confirmed over 30 already and there are definitely many more), will be able to connect with other short lines who have hit the proverbial "Brick Walls." DNA has the potential to prove or to disprove paper or speculative lineages. Several of us have already succeeded in both. Our project has reduced 68 individual lines down to 30 already. Yours could be next. Won't you consider joining us in this endeavor?

SOME OF OUR GOALS
First of all, the goal of the Holt DNA Surname Project is to distinguish between Holt Family ancestral lines worldwide regardless of spelling. It has been proven already that Holt and various spellings of that name have been used by many different countries across the world. Secondly, to disprove or prove paper trail selections of ancestors and speculative lineages. Third, to prove connections of many of the multitudes of different short ancestral lines by matching DNA Y-chromosome samples from those lines. So, the more members that we get to join and place their DNA results in the pool for comparisons, the more we expect to find significant matches that will show common ancestral relationships and move many past their "Brick Walls." Privacy is of great importance. The names of the members and any living ancestors are listed as "Private" and only those who match each other are given contact information.

We can only grow if you will recruit others by word of mouth, emailing other researchers, spreading the news of the possibilities of using DNA to correct your paper research, or prove your research. A match with another might help you both to overcome a long time "Brick Wall."
